Description:
Position Purpose
At Saint Francis Hospital, the Cardiac Surgery Step Down provides intermediate-level care to patients recovering from cardiac surgery, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and other cardiovascular procedures. The RN will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes.
What You Will Do

Provide direct nursing care to post-operative cardiac surgery patients in a step-down setting

Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and hemodynamic status

Manage chest tubes, temporary pacing wires, surgical incisions, and IV medications
-
Administer medications, including cardiac drips, per physician orders and protocols

Educate patients and families on recovery, medications, and lifestyle modifications

Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams

Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited college or university affiliated nursing program.

Licensure: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Connecticut.

Certification: BLS (AHA/ARC) required.

Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience (cardiac or critical care preferred)
Preferred Skills
-
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.

Experience: cardiac step-down, ICU, or telemetry unit

Certification: ACLS and Stroke Certification preferred.

This is an hourly position, included in the RN Step Program pay range: $36.15 to $59.95.
