Description:
Certified Surgical Tech, CST/Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN - Endoscopy
What You Will Do
-
Assist the surgical team in Endoscopy by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures under the supervision of the circulating nurse
-
Verify correct surgical site, assist with patient transport as needed, and prepare the pre‑operative site
-
Review OR schedules, note changes to procedures, and gather required equipment, instruments, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards
-
Perform surgical scrub, don sterile gown and gloves, and participate in opening and maintaining the sterile field
-
Organize instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure efficient workflow and patient safety
-
Instrument surgical cases, pass instruments to surgeons, and anticipate needs to support uninterrupted procedures
-
Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in accordance with policy
-
Maintain integrity of the sterile field and properly receive, label, and handle medications and specimens

Assist with prepping and draping patients and gowning and gloving surgical team members
-
Participate in time-outs and support patient safety throughout the intraoperative phase
-
Prepare sterile dressings and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions

Support post‑procedure activities, including room turnover, cleaning and disinfection, disposal of contaminated waste and sharps, specimen processing, and assembly of instruments for Central Supply

Communicate changes in surgeon preferences for supplies or equipment and assist with maintaining specialty preference cards
-
Provide age-appropriate, patient-centered care in accordance with MercyOne standards, policies, and all applicable regulatory requirements
Schedule:

Monday - Friday

8 hour shifts
-
Start and end times depend on department's scheduled procedures

Start times between 6 am and 8 am
-
End times between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm
-
Later starts on Thursdays
-
Call rotation dependent on department need
-
30 minute response time
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program; graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.

CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
-
LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
-
No prior experience required.
-
Previous endo/GI experience preferred.
