About Advocate Health

Advocate Health Nursing Jobs: Six States, 42,000 Nurses, and a $776 Million Bet on Its Workforce

In January 2026, Advocate Health announced $776 million in additional workforce compensation for the year — merit increases, pay-structure adjustments, and a unified $18.85-per-hour minimum starting wage across every facility in its six-state footprint. That figure is already hitting paychecks. For registered nurses evaluating their next move, Advocate Health nursing jobs represent something uncommon: a system with $32 billion in annual revenue that is visibly channeling resources back into the people providing bedside care.

Sixty-Nine Hospitals, Three Brands, One Organization

Advocate Health formed in December 2022 when Advocate Aurora Health merged with Atrium Health, creating the nation's third-largest nonprofit integrated health system. It operates 69 hospitals and more than 1,000 care sites across Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Wisconsin under three regional brands — Advocate Health Care, Aurora Health Care, and Atrium Health. The system employs 42,000 nurses, serves nearly 6 million patients annually, and filled over 11,000 positions through internal movement in 2024 alone. That kind of geographic range means a nurse who starts in suburban Chicago can transfer to a teaching hospital in Charlotte or a community facility on Wisconsin's lakefront without leaving the organization. Registered nurse positions at Advocate Health carry a portability few systems match.

Where Nurses Specialize

The clinical footprint runs deep. In Charlotte, Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital — 247 beds, the largest children's hospital between Atlanta and D.C. — has been a U.S. News Best Children's Hospital for 18 consecutive years, ranking top-50 nationally in 10 pediatric specialties. Its cardiovascular ICU recently doubled to 20 beds with 1:1 or 1:2 staffing ratios, managing congenital heart repairs, pediatric transplants, VADs, and ECMO. In Illinois, the system runs five Level I adult trauma centers and Advocate Christ Medical Center holds four consecutive Magnet designations. Across the enterprise, 13 Magnet designations cover 19 facilities, with seven additional Pathway to Excellence designations — and all eligible sites are committed to pursuing one or the other. Since combining, the system has reported a 14 percent decrease in patient mortality. Nursing careers at Advocate Health plug into nationally recognized programs in cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, organ transplantation, burn care, and rehabilitation.

Education Without the Out-of-Pocket Sting

In early 2026, the system launched InStride as its unified education-assistance vendor. The standout option — InStride Upfront Tuition — pays partner schools directly, eliminating reimbursement paperwork and out-of-pocket costs for nurses pursuing BSN, MSN, or DNP degrees. Traditional tuition reimbursement and a student-loan repayment benefit (direct payments to servicers) round out the package. In 2025, over 16,500 teammates received nearly $29 million in tuition support, and another 4,100 received more than $12 million in loan repayment. Wake Forest University School of Medicine serves as the academic core, with DNP tracks dating to a nurse-anesthesia program established in 1942 and access to hundreds of active clinical trials. New-graduate nurse residency programs operate at multiple sites with structured preceptorships.

Pay, Projects, and Momentum

RN base pay generally falls between $40 and $57 per hour depending on location and specialty, with some ICU postings advertising $5,000 sign-on bonuses. The 2026 benefits package adds no-cost virtual therapy, enhanced family-planning and menopause-care coverage, and 12 hours of paid volunteer time annually. On the construction side, a $645 million expansion at Illinois Masonic Medical Center is delivering a new bed pavilion and birthing center through 2026, and the system's $1 billion South Side Chicago commitment includes a $300 million replacement hospital, 10 new outpatient clinics adding 85,000 annual appointments, and over 1,000 new positions. Those projects translate directly into RN demand across med-surg, emergency, OB, and community health.

Advocate Health nursing jobs span an unusual range of settings, specialties, and states within a single system that is spending to grow. Search current RN positions at Advocate Health on RegisteredNurse.jobs and filter by location, unit, or shift.
