Queen's North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital (QNHCH) is seeking an experienced and collaborative Nurse Manager - Inpatient Services to provide leadership oversight for all three inpatient units within our rural acute care hospital. This role offers the unique opportunity to lead diverse clinical teams while making a lasting impact on patient care for our island community.

Position Summary

The Nurse Manager - Inpatient Services is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and daily operations of all inpatient nursing units , including:

ICU
Family Birthing Unit
Medical/Surgical Unit

This role provides direct supervision and support to nursing staff, sets standards of clinical care, ensures regulatory compliance, and manages resources in alignment with Queen's mission, vision, and values. The Nurse Manager works closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and hospital administration to promote safe, high‑quality, and patient‑centered care across the inpatient continuum.

Key Responsibilities

Provide operational and nursing leadership for all inpatient units
Supervise, mentor, and support nursing leadership and frontline staff
Establish and maintain standards of nursing practice and patient care
Oversee unit staffing, scheduling, and resource utilization
Develop and manage departmental budgets
Ensure compliance with:
Regulatory and accreditation requirements
Hospital policies and clinical quality standards
Lead performance improvement, quality, and patient safety initiatives
Participate in long‑range planning and service development for inpatient nursing services
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional development

Inpatient Units Overview

Medical/Surgical ICU (ICU)

4‑bed, all‑private room unit
24‑hour operation with in‑house intensivist coverage
Care includes cardiac arrest, sepsis, respiratory failure, trauma, post‑surgical and medical emergencies
Supports ICU, telemetry, and overflow medical/surgical patients

Family Birthing Unit (FBU)

5 private labor and delivery suites
1 triage room, 3 postpartum overflow beds, and a Level I nursery
Baby‑Friendly designated hospital
Collaborative Physician and Midwifery care model
Provides low‑risk OB care and high‑risk stabilization prior to transport

Medical/Surgical Unit (Med_Surg)

26 total patient rooms (25 private, 1 semi‑private)
Pediatric and adult patient population
Full scope of general medical/surgical services, including total joint procedures

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification & Licensure

Current Hawaiʻi State license as a Registered Nurse
Associate's Degree in Nursing
Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
Current BLS/HCP certification
Additional certifications may be required by area of assignment (e.g., ACLS, TNCC, NRP, Fetal Monitoring)

Experience

Minimum three (3) years as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility
One (1) year as a charge nurse, clinical lead, or other supervisory role
Demonstrated proficiency in:
Oral and written communication
Computer applications such as Word and Excel for reporting and documentation

Physical Demands

Continuous: standing, walking, reaching, grasping, seeing, hearing, speaking
Frequent: bending, twisting, pushing/pulling up to 30 psi, lifting up to 10 lbs
Occasional: lifting with assistance up to 75 lbs, climbing, kneeling, crouching
Regular use of computers, phones, patient care equipment, and office devices
