Position Summary
The Hospice Inpatient Unit Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients with terminal illnesses during overnight hours. This role focuses on comfort, symptom management, and emotional support for patients and their families during end-of-life care. The RN is accountable for the safe, effective delivery and coordination of hospice nursing services within the inpatient setting while upholding professional nursing standards and hospice philosophies.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver comprehensive inpatient hospice nursing care focused on comfort, dignity, and quality of life

Perform ongoing patient assessments and respond promptly to changes in condition

Manage pain, symptoms, and complex end-of-life care needs

Support patients and families with empathy, education, and emotional presence

Collaborate effectively with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to implement individualized care plans

Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and critical thinking in both routine and urgent situations

Accurately document patient care and clinical interventions in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards

Maintain accountability for assigned patient care and assist with coordinating care activities as needed

Consistently practice according to professional nursing standards and hospice regulations
Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice

Current CPR certification (as applicable)

TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray, as applicable)

Current health certificate per state regulation or contract requirements

Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements

Minimum age requirement of 18 years
Preferred Qualifications

Previous hospice, palliative care, or inpatient nursing experience

Strong assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills
-
Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and organized in emotionally challenging situations

Comfortable working independently during overnight shifts
