Job Description:
Position Summary : The Geriatric Nurse Specialist (GNS) assesses, promotes and contributes to the quality of nursing care provided to patients and their families/support systems throughout the hospital continuum. The GNS provides clinical leadership through advanced practice role-modeling and professional communication. Specialization in nursing practice includes in-depth graduate study of relevant theories and scientific knowledge related to a select patient population which promotes the ability to analyze and refine nursing practice and to generate nursing knowledge. In collaboration with the health care team, the GNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical expertise to improve patient care and patient outcomes. The APN key functions include: expert clinician, consultant, educator, leader and researcher.
PAY RANGE: $87K - $120,622
*The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations

Qualifications:

Education - Masters Degree in Nursing required

Clinical Nurse Specialist, Master's in Nursing Education, or Nurse Practitioner preferred

Certification in relevant field preferred

Experience - 3 - 5 years recent experience in an acute care hospital setting.

License/Certification Required - Licensure to practice as a nurse in the State of New York. NP certification if applicable. Current Certification for Expanded Role in Nursing (CRNA) if applicable. CPR and/or ACLS. If a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), must be an RN who has completed advanced clinical nursing education (usually a master's degree) and is certified by New York State as a clinical nurse specialist. New York certifies CNSs in the following specialties: Adult Health; Pediatrics; Oncology; and Psychiatry/Mental Health.

Skills - Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Effective teaching skills. Proficient, efficient and safe independent clinical practice capability. Competent computer skills (MS Office software)
