Job Summary
The Unit Nurse Manager, RN is responsible for the coordination, management, and evaluation of 24-hour nursing care delivery, nursing personnel, and unit operations for an assigned Skilled Acute Unit. This role ensures high-quality, evidence-based patient care, regulatory compliance, and effective interdisciplinary collaboration while supporting staff development and performance improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Provides clinical and operational leadership for assigned Skilled Acute Unit.
- Establishes objectives and standards to ensure safe, effective, and compliant nursing care.
- Oversees resident assessments, care planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with regulatory and professional standards.
- Ensures physician orders are accurately transcribed, implemented, and communicated.
- Monitors quality indicators and implements performance improvement initiatives using PDSA methodology.
- Conducts root cause analyses and develops corrective action plans as needed.
- Ensures appropriate staffing levels based on patient acuity and care standards.
- Provides coaching, counseling, performance evaluation, and staff development support.
- Participates in hiring, retention, and disciplinary processes for nursing staff.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, medical staff, and ancillary services.
- Oversees infection prevention practices and participates in environmental and safety rounds.
- Ensures accurate documentation, incident reporting, and medical record audits.
- Responds decisively to clinical emergencies and provides direct patient care as needed.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA, resident rights, and organizational policies.

QualificationsEducation
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment
- CPR certification (ACLS preferred per facility standards)
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience required
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or charge experience preferred
- Skilled nursing, sub-acute, or long-term acute care experience preferred
