Job Summary and Qualifications
The Burn Coordinator designs, plans, and implements formal / informal education programs; based on evaluations of department needs. Demonstrates clinical competency and acts as a clinical resource, functioning as a role model for patient care and assists in staff development. The Burn Coordinator will also coordinate Burn performance improvement for all burn cases. The Burn Coordinator will act as a resource to the hospital wound care team and actively participate in the burn rounding process. The Burn Coordinator assumes accountability for developing, supporting, coordinating, and presenting burn education/prevention activities within the hospital and at the community level. This would include but not be limited to providing information to staff, patients/families, and coordinating community activities to promote burn awareness and prevention. The Burn Coordinator will ensure that the objectives of the burn program are met in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Burn center public relations are inherent in this role. The individual reports to the Director of Burn/Trauma Services.
- The Burn Coordinator is responsible for notifying the Burn/Trauma Director for any indicators and filters, which are encountered in the burn patient population. Daily tasks include but not limited to the following: Rounding with medical and surgical burn and trauma teams, participating in case management and discharge planning meetings. Conduct unit rounds every 4 hours to identify potential nursing, physician, customer service, and safety issues, changes in acuity for assignments and staffing. Assists Burn/Trauma Director with annual evaluations with specific emphasis on goal setting. Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring. Assists with scheduling as needed. Position Requirements: A. Licensure: Currentvalid Florida RN license, Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or related Health Care preferred. B. Training/Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS,TNCC, ENPC, ABLS, NIMS Series training - Healthcare provider. Wound certification preferred. C. Experience: 3-5 years of trauma / burn nursing experience in the Burn Center which must include 1-2 years as a charge nurse or other management position preferred.. D. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Other Attributes: Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills needed. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem solving skills.
