Primary care nursing is at the heart of delivering consistent, high-quality patient care, and this role offers a rare opportunity to influence that care across an entire service line. As a Primary Care Clinical Resource RN, you'll combine hands-on clinical practice with education, mentorship, and quality improvement work that directly impacts patients, staff, and clinics throughout UVA Health's Primary Care network.
This unique hybrid position supports 12 Primary Care locations across Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Geriatrics while serving as a clinical expert and educational resource for nursing teams. If you're an experienced ambulatory RN who enjoys variety, building relationships, mentoring others, and leading change, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact beyond a single clinic.
This position offers a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with no on-call responsibilities. Partial remote flexibility is available following successful orientation and onboarding .
The Role
This is far more than a traditional outpatient nursing position. The Primary Care Clinical Resource RN serves as a trusted clinical partner across multiple practice locations, supporting operational needs while advancing nursing excellence through education, onboarding, competency validation, and workflow standardization.
In this role, you'll collaborate closely with clinic leadership, providers, and interdisciplinary teams to promote evidence-based practice, strengthen staff development, and enhance patient care delivery throughout Primary Care.
On a typical day, you may:

Float to Primary Care clinics based on operational need

Provide direct patient care, rooming support, nurse visits, and clinical procedures

Support new team member orientation and onboarding activities

Coordinate competency validation and ongoing staff development

Develop educational resources and reinforce clinical workflows

Meet with clinic leaders toidentifylearning opportunities and operational priorities

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and practice standardization efforts

Coach and mentor nursing staff across multiple clinic locations

Support implementation of projects and system-wide initiatives

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease
The pay range for this role is $37.51 - $49.82 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
