Oncology Registered Nurse (Nights)
Bring Your Oncology Nursing Experience to AdventHealth
Bring your oncology nursing expertise , compassion, and clinical judgment to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. As an AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Oncology Nurse, you will provide and supervise direct and indirect nursing care while supporting patients and families throughout their cancer treatment journey.
Oncology RN's evaluate patient care through the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role partners with physicians and the broader care team to coordinate services, promote positive outcomes, and deliver care consistent with professional nursing standards, AdventHealth policies, and applicable regulations.
Location: Shawnee Mission, Kansas
Schedule/Shift: Full-time, nights
What You'll Do

As an O ncology Registered Nurse , you will provide and supervise direct and indirect nursing care using established professional standards, practices, policies, and procedures.

Assess patients, develop individualized care plans, implement appropriate interventions, and evaluate patient responses and outcomes.

Provide supportive resources and education to patients and families regarding cancer treatments, side effects, procedures, medications, and treatment expectations.

Triage and manage cancer-related concerns, including administering and monitoring chemotherapy and other oncology treatments.

Enter chemotherapy treatment orders according to physician direction and coordinate treatment appointments with the infusion center.

Monitor patient adherence to oral chemotherapy and other medications prescribed by the physician.

Coordinate all aspects of oncologic patient care in collaboration with physicians, infusion services, benefits teams, and other healthcare professionals.

Assist the benefits team with obtaining authorizations for chemotherapy and infusion-related treatments.

Complete patient documentation and forms, including FMLA, disability paperwork, and letters of medical necessity.

Facilitate timely communication by responding to voicemails, emails, text messages, and Microsoft Teams messages.

Monitor, document, and communicate patient progress, including responses to treatments and medications.

Research new cancer treatments, protocols, and evidence-based practices to support current and comprehensive patient care.

Accommodate physician and practice needs while maintaining efficient coordination of patient services.

Maintain respectful, professional, and collaborative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and team members.

Adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and AdventHealth policies.

Actively participate in outstanding customer service and quality improvement activities.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated understanding of oncology nursing principles, chemotherapy treatments, infusion-related care, and cancer-related symptoms.

Oncology Registered Nurse s have knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.

Port flush competency required.

Ability to assess patients, prioritize care, and respond appropriately to changes in condition.

Ability to provide patient and family education in a clear, compassionate, and culturally appropriate manner.

Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and critical-thinking skills.

Ability to coordinate care across physicians, infusion services, benefits teams, and other healthcare professionals.

Ability to use electronic medical records, Microsoft Teams, email, text messaging, and other computer-based systems.

Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.

Commitment to outstanding customer service, respectful relationships, patient safety, and whole-person care.
Education
Work Experience
-
One or more years of oncology experience required.
-
One or more years of inpatient oncology, ICU, or PCU experience preferred.

One or more years of physician office experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
-
Registered Nurse license required.

Basic Life Support certification required.
-
Oncology Certified Nurse certification preferred.
