The Labor & Birth (L&B) Nurse Manager provides operational, clinical, and administrative leadership for assigned patient care areas, ensuring safe, high‑quality pre‑ and post‑operative nursing care in accordance with professional standards of practice, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. In collaboration with Medical Staff Leadership and departmental leaders, this role supports program development, operational improvements, and positive physician partnerships while maintaining effective communication and alignment with departmental goals. The Nurse Manager operates within established budgetary parameters, participates in annual budget development, manages staffing and resources responsibly, and monitors financial performance to ensure a safe patient environment. This role provides clinical supervision, performance management, and professional development for nursing and support staff, fosters a culture of safety and engagement, and performs all responsibilities in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. Position Details: Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing required; BSN, related BS and/or MS preferred. Licensure: Current licensure by the applicable state of practice Board of Nursing Experience: Four (4) years of experience in clinical specialty or related area (preferred). Able to apply principles of management, co-worker supervision, teach, performance improvement, and budget (required). Basic computer skills including data entry, Windows, and MS Office (required). Certifications: Current Basic Life Support Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support through an American Heart Association approved program. Why Mercy? Transforming the Health of Our Communities Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest.
