Job Title: Clinical Research Nurse Manager
Job Description
This role leads a team of clinical research nurses and support staff within a cancer pavilion, ensuring high-quality patient care and strict adherence to clinical research guidelines. The Clinical Research Nurse Manager oversees all aspects of people management, supports day-to-day operations, contributes to strategic planning for research initiatives, and may occasionally provide direct patient care and staff coverage as needed.
Responsibilities

Lead and manage a research nurse team of approximately 20 direct reports, including research students, team leads, satellite nurses, and research nurses.

Oversee all aspects of people management, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance development, and disciplinary actions as needed.

Manage scheduling and time off requests to ensure adequate coverage across the cancer pavilion and satellite locations.

Ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and high-quality care throughout their participation in clinical trials and research studies.

Monitor and enforce adherence to clinical research protocols, regulatory requirements, and institutional guidelines for all research activities.

Oversee day-to-day clinical research operations, ensuring efficient workflow, timely completion of study-related tasks, and optimal resource utilization.

Collaborate in planning and strategy to continuously improve research initiatives, processes, and patient care within the research program.

Support and mentor team leads and research nurses in clinical research best practices, documentation standards, and patient-centered care.

Coordinate with other clinical and research departments to facilitate smooth patient flow and integrated care in the cancer pavilion.

Use clinical research systems and tools, including EPIC and OnCore, to oversee documentation, data integrity, and study compliance.

Step in to provide direct patient care and coverage for staff as needed, including in-clinic support for patient visits.

Promote a collaborative, supportive team culture focused on learning, professional growth, and continuous improvement.

Identify training needs and participate in or coordinate training opportunities to develop leadership and research competencies within the team.

Participate in periodic travel to satellite sites to support research operations and team collaboration.
Essential Skills

Active registered nurse license in the State of Michigan.

Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience.

At least 2 years of leadership experience, which may include training, mentoring, team leadership, or multi-project management, not necessarily with direct reports.

Minimum of 2 years of clinical research experience, ideally in oncology, though other therapeutic areas will be considered.

Demonstrated experience in clinical research operations and adherence to clinical trial protocols.

Proven ability to lead, develop, and support clinical staff in a complex healthcare environment.

Strong organizational and time-management skills to coordinate multiple projects, staff schedules, and patient needs.

Ability to ensure high-quality patient care while maintaining strict compliance with research guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Proficiency or familiarity with EPIC electronic medical record systems.

Proficiency or familiarity with OnCore clinical research management systems.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and support staff.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Oncology nursing or oncology clinical research experience.

Experience working in a cancer pavilion or oncology-focused clinical setting.

Comfort using EPIC for clinical documentation and coordination of patient care.

Experience using OnCore or similar clinical trial management systems.

Interest in developing leadership capabilities; the organization will provide training opportunities in people management.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to support both operational and strategic aspects of research programs.

Work Environment
The role is primarily based at a cancer pavilion, where the Clinical Research Nurse Manager spends most of their time overseeing research operations and supporting staff. The position may require quarterly travel to satellite sites to support and coordinate research activities. Typical start times range between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., with occasional requirements to stay later in the clinic to support patient visits. After a 90-day probationary period, the role offers the flexibility to work from home one day per week, depending on operational needs and on-site requirements. The work environment is highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, shared learning, and support for professional growth. Staff use technologies such as EPIC for electronic medical records and OnCore for clinical research management, working in a clinical setting focused on oncology care and research.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $93600.00 - $116000.00/yr.
