Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adults on a Med/Surg Stroke Stepdown unit, including monitoring neurological status and fluid balance
- Perform and document frequent patient assessments; identify and respond to neurological changes (NIHSS as required for unit)
- Administer medications, manage IV pumps, and handle N/G and feeding tubes as needed
- Collaborate with nursing, medical, and ancillary teams to plan and implement individualized care plans; assist with discharge planning
- Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC; adhere to unit protocols and safety standards
- Float as needed within the MS Stroke Stepdown/Med-Surg environment; maintain professional standards across shifts
Requirements
- Licenses and certifications: Active New York RN license; Nursys verification for all active RN licenses
- Certifications: BLS (AHA) required; NIHSS certification required for this unit (eligible to obtain prior to start)
- Experience: 2+ years of Med/Surg experience with stroke stepdown; travel experience required
- Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program; RN degree and active licensure in NY
- Skills: Proficiency with IV pumps, NG/feeding tubes; EPIC EMR experience; ability to work in a high-acuity Med/Surg environment
- Additional: Ability to work the night shift and to float within the unit as needed
