The Psychiatric/Mental Health (PMH) Registered Nurse, requires a wide range of nursing, psychosocial, and neurobiological expertise. PMH nurses promote well-being through prevention and education, in addition to the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and substance use disorders. The nurse demonstrates ability to make clinical judgments in an effective and efficient manner and demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care. The PMH RN works in a variety of settings and provides comprehensive care to individuals, families, and communities when applicable.

Bowen Health Inpatient Hospital is a 16-bed, adult psychiatric facility located in Pierceton, Indiana along US-30. Being a community mental health center, we have a duty to care for those in need in our primary counties of (Kosciusko, Whitly, Marshall, Wabash, and Huntington). We also serve many patients from across northeast Indiana, where Bowen Health has several outpatient offices. We provide traditional inpatient care for those that are an imminent or immediate risk to themselves or others due to their mental health concerns or in need of withdrawal treatment. This is a stand-alone facility. Nursing staff must be competent and confident in their ability to assess physical and psychiatric concerns.
The nurse manager is responsible for all nursing staff operations (staffing, hiring, education/training, compliance). This includes reviewing and improvements to processes and review of incident reports. As a full-time staff, this is a salary role with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Time is managed by the individual. Attendance in weekly and monthly meetings is required. Manager is expected to have flexibility in managing their hours in order to work with direct reporting staff on day, night, and weekend shifts and manage their own work/life balance.
This manager role is expected to play an active role in the nursing care for the hospital, stepping in to provide direct care at times and support the nursing staff, and understand the needs of the role thoroughly. Candidates for this role should have a strong skill set in de-escalation and crisis management. A candidate with experience in psychiatric care and leadership is preferred.
