Responsibilities
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the Department of Critical Care provides advanced practice care for critically ill patients within one of the following intensive care service lines: Cardiothoracic/Transplant ICU, Neuroscience ICU, or Abdominal Transplant/Surgical ICU. Service line assignment at hire will be based on departmental needs and the candidate's experience and qualifications.
The Cardiothoracic/Transplant ICU cares for patients requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support, including ECMO and Impella, as well as patients undergoing heart and lung transplantation and complex cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
The Neuroscience ICU provides specialized care for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, neurologic conditions requiring intensive care, and those recovering from neurosurgical interventions.

Qualifications

Physician Assistant:
Must be a graduate of CAAHEP (Council on the Accreditations of Allied Health Education Programs) approved university program. NCCPA certification required. Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Florida.
Nurse Practitioner:
Master's degree in Nursing required. (If licensed prior to 1998, Master's degree not required by the State of Florida.) Must have current Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) license or eligible to obtain Florida license. Certification by the ANCC or AANP in a specialty area required.
Additional Qualifications:
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess strong computer skills. Must be flexible and willing to handle extended hours if the need arises in department. Experience preferred but not required.

This full-time nocturnist APP position consists of 12-hour night shifts on a rotating schedule, with APPs working approximately 13-14 shifts per month. APPs also have the opportunity to work up to three-day shifts per month, based departmental needs.
