Clinical Nurse Outpatient - General Oncology - LBJ Hospital

General Oncology provides comprehensive outpatient cancer care through a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering coordinated, high-quality services and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey.
The Clinical Nurse Outpatient is a key member of the UT MD Anderson, Lyndon B. Johnson Oncology Program. The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse Outpatient is to provide individualized assistance to Medical Oncology patients, families, and caregivers in the coordination and communication of the patient's plan of care. The Clinical Nurse Outpatient collaborates with physicians, referring providers, and interdisciplinary teams to support continuity of care, patient education, and symptom management.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), at least two years of oncology nursing experience. Medical Oncology and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is preferred. Candidates with strong telephone triage, care coordination, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration experience are highly desired.
Salary Range:
Minimum $68,000 ($32.69/hour) - Midpoint $105,200 ($50.58/hour) - Maximum $142,500 ($68.51/hour)
Work Location: LBJ Hospital
The typical work schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday onsite; Tuesday and Thursday remote (hybrid schedule).

Responsibilities

Facilitate the entry of patients into the cancer program and serve as the point of contact for primary care physicians and referring providers.

Provide individualized assistance to Medical Oncology patients, families, and caregivers in the coordination and communication of the patient's plan of care.

Initiate and document patient teaching related to diagnosis, treatment plans, symptom management, medications, and supportive care services.

Perform telephone triage and assess patient concerns to ensure timely intervention and appropriate follow-up.

Follow up on recommendations from Harris Health System's Ask My Nurse service.

Implement risk assessments and healthcare pathways for oncology patients.

Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate and maintain individualized patient care plans.

Develop collaborative relationships with all physicians in the UT MD Anderson Oncology Program at LBJ Hospital.

Serve as a liaison between oncologists and patients' referring providers to support continuity of care.

Provide access to community resources and connect patients with support services.

Assist with tracking program metrics and quality indicators.

Serve as a liaison between community personnel and the interdisciplinary team at LBJ Hospital.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Other Requirements: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
