Make an Impact Through Clinical Excellence, Education, and Patient Care
MercyOne is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Clinical Educator/Specialty Nurse to combine hands-on emergency nursing with staff education and professional development. In this unique role, you'll spend approximately 60% of your time providing direct patient care in the Emergency Department and 40% leading education, competency development, trauma training, and clinical practice initiatives .
As a clinical expert and educator, you'll help shape the next generation of emergency nurses while advancing evidence-based practice, quality outcomes, and trauma readiness across the organization.
What You'll Do
Emergency Nursing Practice (60%)

Provide high-quality care to patients with urgent, emergent, and critical conditions.

Perform rapid assessments, triage, and emergency interventions.

Administer medications and treatments, monitor patient progress, and collaborate closely with providers and interdisciplinary teams.

Participate in resuscitation, trauma response, and emergency stabilization efforts.
Clinical Education & Professional Development (40%)

Lead onboarding, orientation, and competency programs for Emergency Department staff.

Develop and deliver educational content, simulations, drills, and continuing education programs.

Serve as a mentor, coach, and clinical resource for nurses and interdisciplinary team members.

Promote specialty certification, professional growth, and lifelong learning.

Support emergency preparedness, trauma readiness, and evidence-based nursing practice.
Trauma Education & Quality Improvement

Partner with Emergency Department and Trauma Program leaders to support trauma education initiatives.

Coordinate trauma simulations, mock activations, skills validation, TNCC, ATCN, and other trauma-focused learning opportunities.

Use quality metrics, performance improvement findings, and patient outcomes data to identify educational opportunities.

Support policy development, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety and outcomes.
Qualifications
Education
Licensure
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa or compact state licensure.
Certifications
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of Emergency Department or Critical Care nursing experience required.
