The post-graduate internal medicine fellowship for Nurse Practitioners (NP) is designed to provide Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) an opportunity to engage in both didactic and clinical experiences through a 12-month fellowship at one of the top medical centers in the nation. During the year-long fellowship, the Nurse Practitioner will rotate through a variety of patient care settings, including an elective rotation of choice. Clinical rotations will include subspecialties in internal medicine and didactic hours.
The NP should have graduated from (Adult, Gerontology) Acute Care programs. Must not have worked as a NP previously to be eligible for this program
Board examination needs to be taken and passed by February 2027, New Jersey Nurse Practitioner License, CDS & DEA required
Anticipated start date is June 21, 2027, Ending Date: 07/31/2027
. Only open to new graduates within 18 mos of June 2027 (Feb 2026 earliest)
The fellowship program goals include:

Building upon the education and practice base required to instill confidence to practice independently to manage a patient caseload;

Developing effective communication and presentation skills as part of the inter professional care team;

Utilizing evidence-based medicine practices through value-based care;

Preparing the APN to assume full responsibility for care of complex populations in multiple settings;

Providing an avenue for APN leadership within the organization;

Leading an evidence-based project or research.

Advanced Practice Nurse Fellowship: Internal Medicine
This is a full time Nurse Practitioner for 12 months at HackensackUMC. Generally it will be an (8) hour day shift with occasional evenings (up to 8pm) required. This depends on what rotation the NP is completing. Weekends and holidays as needed.

Required Education & Experience:

Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited nursing program.

Master's degree from an accredited institution.

Experience in a relevant patient care setting.

Maintains clinical competencies through ongoing clinical practice and continuing education, as mandated by the Board of Nursing and national certification bodies.

Must fulfill the terms of a collaborative practice agreement with staff physicians.
Required Licenses & Certifications:

Current NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.

Active NJ Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) License.

Current APN certification with prescriptive privileges in New Jersey.

AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) HCP Certification.
