Job Description
This Registered Nurse role focuses on leading and coordinating nursing care within an assigned unit in a large healthcare facility. The nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the work of nursing staff, ensures adherence to nursing department objectives and procedures, and supports high-quality patient care, particularly for geriatric patients. The position offers a 12‑month contract-to-hire pathway with strong long-term benefits once converted to a permanent role.
Responsibilities

Endorse, interpret, and enforce the objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department within the assigned area.

Plan, direct, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate the activities of all nursing personnel within the assigned unit.

Conduct daily conferences with unit staff to review and communicate recent policies and procedures and ensure consistent implementation.

Demonstrate and promote professional courtesy to all visitors and maintain a welcoming and respectful unit environment.

Coordinate with appropriate personnel to ensure adequate supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained on the unit.

Provide clinical consultation and guidance to unit personnel to support safe and effective patient care.

Resolve immediate clinical and operational problems on the unit and communicate actions and outcomes to the Unit Supervisor.

Support and participate in case management activities, including review and coordination of medical records and patient care plans.

Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems to document and review patient information accurately and in a timely manner.

Deliver high-quality patient care with a strong focus on geriatric populations, following established standards of nursing practice.

Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support coordinated care.
Essential Skills

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with current NYS licensure and registration.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Proficiency in case management and coordination of patient care.

Experience working with medical records and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff, patients, and families.

Experience in geriatric care and the ability to provide compassionate, age-appropriate patient care.

Ability to plan, delegate, and evaluate the work of nursing personnel in a unit setting.

Ability to resolve immediate clinical and operational issues and communicate actions to leadership.

Valid driver's license or state-issued identification card.

Work Environment
This role is based in a large, 700+ bed healthcare facility that provides comprehensive services, including extensive geriatric care. Nurses work 12-hour shifts, with day shifts typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and night shifts typically running from 7:00 p.m. onward, providing continuity of care around the clock. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, with over 200 contingent workers on site and a strong culture of teamwork and professional support. Electronic medical record (EMR) systems and standard clinical equipment are used daily to manage patient care and documentation. Once converted to permanent employment, the position is part of a union and offers benefits such as holiday pay, retirement plans, and pension, supporting long-term career stability in a professional clinical setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $47.00/hr.
