Job Summary and Qualifications
What you will do in this role:

Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.

Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.

Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

Performs and documents patient assessments and reassessments following Nursing and Departmental P/P, using appropriate techniques for data collection and analysis, at regular and indicated intervals

Performs interventions based on critical thinking and technical skills assimilated from assessment, reports and information communicated by other health care providers to achieve optimal patient outcome.

Ensures adherence to principles of asepsis throughout the perioperative continuum.

Systematically ensures documentation of physician orders and their completion.

Administers medications using accurate calculations against age specific guidelines.

Uses specialized equipment and supplies safely and effectively.

Monitors patient closely during anesthesia induction and reversal
-
Applies special precautions supervising care provided to sedated patients to minimize potential for injury.

Provides direct patient care for the pre-, intra, and immediate post-operative phases of the perioperative continuum.

Organizes equipment and supply availability to promote patient safety and minimize delays.

Actively participates in the Time-Out process

Follows AORN guidelines for circulator duties in the OR

Achieves the expected patient outcomes or revises plan of care and implementation of care based on the results of the prescribed plan of care.

Evaluates and records patient response to interventions (esp. pain management, safety precautions)
-
Ensures that problems arising are promptly communicated and resolved.
-
Provides accurate and complete report to incoming nursing unit staff.
-
Applies universal precautions according to potential exposure routes. Wears indicated protective barriers without supervision or reminders.

Uses Meditech automation system or manual records to perform scheduling, order entry, care documentation, communications, and to keep abreast of departmental information.

Acts as a patient advocate; facilitates appropriate communication of and resolution for questionable orders or practices from any caregiver. Actively participates in the Time-Out process and SCIP initiatives.

Maintains proficiency in own job duties, cross trains to other duties as appropriate. Identifies in-services/learning activities to enhance job performance. Participates in professional organization (AORN).

Collaborates with OR Supervisor and Director of Perioperative Services to identify critical changes required to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
What qualifications you will need:

Education/Skills Associate's degree required; BSN preferred. BSN will be required within 3 years of employment.

Experience One year of experience is required.

Licenses, Registrations and/or Certifications RN license eligible to practice in the State of Texas; Current BLS and ACLS required from an HCA approved vendor; PALS within 90 days of hire
